Wadduwa Trade & Industrialists Association Upholds Tradition: Sponsorship & Beautification for Annual Perahera

Under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Buddhika Gunawardana, the Wadduwa Traders and Industrialists Association once again stepped forward this year to support the Samudraraam Maha Vihara Perahera in Wadduwa  by providing financial sponsorship and beautification to enhance the festive spirit.

Support and Sponsorship

  • The Association contributed Rs. 15,000 as a monetary sponsor for the Perahera activities at the Vihara.

  • They also beautified the city center by installing light towers and decorative lighting, ensuring that the procession route was both festive and safe.

  • In addition, Mr. Sudath Gunathilaka, past President and current Director of the Association, gave his special support by setting up iron fences around the Wadduwa junction area. This measure helped to control and guide the large crowds that gathered to witness the Perahera, ensuring better safety and smoother flow during the event.

  • These contributions reflect a long-standing tradition: every year, the Association plays a key role in supporting and uplifting the Perahera, maintaining its cultural and religious vibrancy.

Significance & Community Impact

The Daladawatta Purana Maha Vihara Perahera is a major annual event in Wadduwa, drawing thousands of devotees and spectators. The procession showcases traditional drumming, dance troupes, and elephants, preserving the religious and cultural identity of the community.

The financial sponsorship, lighting, and safety measures arranged by the Association and its leadership ensure that the Perahera continues to thrive as a safe, colorful, and spiritually uplifting celebration.

Leadership & Continuity

Chairman Mr. Buddhika Gunawardana emphasized that the Wadduwa Traders and Industrialists Association stands not only as a business entity but as a community partner, dedicated to preserving tradition and supporting religious events. The special efforts of leaders such as Mr. Sudath Gunathilaka highlight the unity and commitment of the Association in serving the public good.

The Association humbly invites other local organizations and well-wishers to join in contributing towards the sustainability of these cultural and religious events, which are an invaluable part of Wadduwa’s heritage.
